Electric walkie pallet jacks, rider pallet trucks and stackers are powered industrial trucks. In Manitoba, Part 22 (Powered Mobile Equipment) of the Workplace Safety and Health Regulation requires employers to make sure anyone operating powered mobile equipment has been trained and is competent to operate it safely. That applies whether the operator walks behind the machine or rides on it.
Because they are compact and slow, electric pallet jacks are easy to underestimate. Common injuries include crushed feet, pinned hands and legs against racking or dock edges, and loads tipping on ramps or uneven floors.
A manual (hand) pallet jack has no motor, so it isn’t powered mobile equipment. Employers still have a general duty to give workers the information, instruction and training they need to work safely. Short training on safe pushing and pulling, load limits, ramps and dock plates, and hand and foot placement goes a long way toward preventing strains and crush injuries.
PWST forklift operator training covers Class I to VII powered industrial trucks, including electric pallet jacks. We train and evaluate your operators at your site, on your own equipment, and every trainee receives a digital diploma and a wallet-size certificate valid for 3 years. Operators with little or no experience can start with Novice Operator training.
